ABOUT ME

Here is a little bit about me and why I made this website. My name is Mike Gulley. I live in Meridian Idaho, which is just outside the capital of Boise. I am married to a wonderful woman named Jessica. I am just your average guy who works for a living. I am 48 years old. I work as a Purchasing Agent and I manage 5 distribution centers located throughout the United States. My job is great, and I enjoy it.

In my spare time I enjoy doing things with my family, watching sports on TV, playing golf, fixing up our house and fly-fishing, among many other things. I use fly-fishing as my escape from the world, it is me against the fish. I fly fish because it is peaceful and I enjoy it. It is my spiritual getaway, my retreat and opportunity to re-energize.

When it comes to fly fishing I still consider myself average. I have average equipment, and I probably spend an average amount of money on my gear each year. I love to fly fish, I have had some great days on the river, but I still have much to learn. I go fishing about the average amount of times each year (10-12 times), like most people. I would love to fly fish several times a week, but I work, I travel with my job, and I have other interests as well. I need to spend time with my family also.

A little about me and my fly fishing history. I started fly fishing about 10 years ago in the Boise area. I enjoyed my time fly-fishing but never had any great days fly-fishing until I hit the Owyhee River in Oregon about 6-7 years ago. Thank you Rob for telling me about this great fly fishing river! Ever since then, the Owyhee River has been my favorite place to fly fish.

I travel some with my job and I am busy in other areas of my life, so I usually only get to the river about 10-12 times a year on full day trips. The Owyhee has enormous fish, and lots of them. I almost always catch 8 or more fish, and each of them averages over 17” long, with many around 24". This led me to my first thought on why I created this website.

1. There must be other great fly-fishing places that I don’t know about that I should fish.

When you get to be my age, your kids are all grown up and you start thinking about retiring and travel. I am still to young to retire, but I do like to travel. I have been to some nice places like Hawaii and Mexico with Jessica. But there are some great places here in the United States that I would love to see as well. This led me to my second thought leading to this website.

2. I want to travel America and see what our country has to offer.

I like to stay busy. I like to work around the house and stay active. The winters in Boise are not hard, but they seem to last a long time. It is not warm outside so you find yourself indoors a lot. I do enjoy some outdoor activities like skiing, but not as much as I use to. So I started surfing the Internet in my spare time and noticed lots of websites. One caught my eye that said that you could build your own website and they would help you. It said to pick a topic you are passionate about so I thought I would give it a try. My third thought that led to me building this website.

3. Build a website about fly-fishing in America and go fly fish as many of these rivers and streams as I possibly can during my lifetime.

This is a great hobby! I love to fly fish but I also enjoy sharing stories with others. Creating this website has given me a nice outlet to express my experiences. I have only been doing this since January of 2011 and I am starting to get some traffic and income, just like SBI said would happen. I have put together my own Site Build It page that has some videos and more information about SBI if you are interested in learning more about them.

You will see some banners and videos on this website about SBI, similar to the one on this page. They help people like me build website's. I had no clue how to build a website but I just follow their action guide and now I have my very own website. It has been fun building it, and I look forward to building more websites with them. If you have ever thought about building a website you may want to check them out.

My wife, Jessica has watched me build this website over the last 5 months and she knows that I am enjoying it. She just started her own website, www.timetobehappy.com. The website is about understanding how much control each of us have over our own happiness. She is knowledgable about this and has been very passionate about this subject. She is well on the way to creating a nice website in her spare time.

So that is why I am doing this. I like to fly fish, I like to travel, and I thought building a website about fly fishing would be fun. I plan on fly-fishing as many different waters and states every year for as long as I can. I figure I have at least 20 years left to fly fish, so maybe I can fish about 20 states and 100 or more different rivers in my lifetime. That would be quite an accomplishment for me.

But this isn't all about me. I also want to share these experiences with you, the reader, and also hear about your experiences and see your photos. I would rather hear about your experiences than share mine. I need your help. I need you to tell me more about your favorite locations, share with others your experiences, and participate with the website by providing your comments and feedback.

Having an online business is very freeing. Many people wish they could make money from home and work anywhere that there is an Internet connection. That's how it is with Solo Build It!. There are some people who have written fake reviews about Solo Build It! in order to steal customers and I don't think it's ethical. In order to set the record straight, I'm letting people know the other side of the story as told here: SiteSell. If you're interested in learning about Google bombs and how unethical people can harm your ebusiness, go to that site and learn the sad truth.

I hope you enjoy the website. Come back often and check on my progress. I will post something on my website about me and my travels showing when and where I have fished as soon as I get started.

There are 50 states and thousands of rivers in America, maybe you will join me on my quest. I have made a page to journal my fishing experiences called my fishing log.

About me - home page.
I have wrote enough about me

Leave this about me page and see where to go fishing.
